30th Annual Gospel Music Awards Come to Vegas

The Stellar Awards will be in Las Vegas this year at the Orleans Arena. The taping will take place on Saturday, March 28, and begin airing on April 5. Some of the highlights expected include a presentation of the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award to Bishop Paul S. Morton; the Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award to President Barack Obama; and the Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legends Award to Al “the Bishop” Hobbs and Andrae Couch. As usual, there will be stellar performances from the top names in Gospel music. Co-hosts of the event this year include radio personality Rickey Smiley and David and Tamela Mann.

Donnie McClurkin Starting New Year With Busy Schedule

Donnie McClurkin, one of the most celebrated and popular Gospel artists of the millennium, has a busy schedule on tap. In addition, to performing at the 16th Annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration (Friday, Jan. 30), he is also co-hosting the 4th Annual Gospel Goes To Hollywood Awards Luncheon (Friday, Feb. 20).

With the awards season on hand, he’ll be traveling coast to coast as a nominee for a number of prestigious awards: he is a NAACP Image Award nominee, nominated for two Stellar awards and as a Slam Dunk Honoree at the 10th Annual All-Star-Gospel Celebration on Friday, Feb. 13 during NBA All-Star Weekend at the Apollo Theater.

Andrea McClurkin Mellini Takes Message Overseas

Camdon Music recording artist Andrea McClurkin-Mellini has a hit record on Gospel music charts with the single “God Can” from her debut CD Higher, and she’s taking the message abroad. McClurkin-Mellini was part of an all night gathering appropriately titled “The Experience” in Lagos, Nigeria, that attracted more than 600,000 people. She shared the stage with brother Donnie McClurkin, Micah Stampley, Israel Houghton and others. The 9th Annual Experience featured American and African Gospel Music artists with the theme of the night as “1 God 1 Voice.”

Kevin Levar to Sing for Pastors at Potter’s House to Discuss Healing the Racial Divide

One Sound Entertainment artist Kevin LeVar has been busy this month, performing on Bobby Jones Gospel Sunday on Jan. 18 and opening for CeCe Winans at the MLK Day Concert in Washington, D.C. He also has a hit record on the radio, “Your Destiny.”

“God never ceases to amaze me and prove that his will and his timing, is perfect. I continue to pray that people all over the world will understand that they have a choice in their destiny and that God’s plan for us is great,” LeVar says.

LeVar was invited to minister in song for more than 150 pastors from various denominations from across the nation for a prayer and commissioning service. “The Reconciled Church: Healing the Racial Divide” meeting was hosted by Bishop Harry Jackson and Bishop T.D. Jakes at the Potter’s House in Dallas on Jan. 15. The gathering was comprised of racially and culturally diverse Christian faith leaders taking practical steps toward racial reconciliation across America.
