Today BET unveiled a new scripted drama, REBEL, which promises to feature issues ripped right from the headlines. REBEL played by the beautiful Danielle Mone Truitt, takes on the complicated relationship the Black community faces with police officers. Director John Singleton (Boy’s in the Hood, Higher Learning, Baby Boy and Poetic Justice) has woven a compelling yet complex story that follows Officer Rebel, as she who leaves the force after an intense Internal Affairs/criminal investigation for shooting her partner in the hopes of stopping him from killing her little brother. She Continues to fight crime as a P.I., Rebel struggles with her brother’s death while defending herself from the dirty cops who are out for revenge.

REBEL features an all-star cast, including Giancarlo Esposito (my crush since School Days), Mykelti Williamson (), Cliff “Method Man” Smith (TJ, Rebel’s ex-husband), LaTanya Richardson (Detective Traylynn Jones, Mack’s New Partner), Brandon Quinn (Mack, Rebel’s Former Partner), the series examines the conflicted relationship officers of color have with their jobs at a time when police forces are rife with brutality and misconduct. REBEL is a hard-hitting, gritty, complicated drama series, featuring many issues that we all see far to often play out on social media and the evening new. NOTR looks forward to watching this exciting program.
